Seqera Platform is running out of space for its horizontal navigation bar, and the amount of options feels overwhelming as a new user. Some of the benefits of a vertical navigation bar:
  • Categorical headers
provide context about the functional areas where the platform provides value.
  • Frees up space
for horizontal breadcrumbs and resource-specific tab menus, which wouldn't be achieved by a horizontal menu that relies on dropdowns. For example, once you navigate to the Secrets page, you would find separate tabs for Credentials and Keys.
  • Serves as a sitemap
for navigating the platform - "Where did I click into?"
  • Reinforces Seqera branding
or allows for white-label customization (customer logo).
  • Parity
with style/structure of Databricks and SageMaker Studio
  • Narrow column makes responsive design easy
(versus stacking a horizontal dropdown menu into 2 rows)
